Mike with Custom Aire is the man! He got my AC back up and running after the unit broke down last evening. Why is it always the hot and muggy days this happens?! Anyway, Mike was very knowledgeable and found the problem almost immediately. He had the part in his truck and fixed the unit on the spot! I've been using this company for over 13 years and I always receive good service.
They are professional and reliable. As far as their fees and rates, they are definitely fair with their prices. I'm grateful to have this amazing family owned company in my community. Thank you Custom Aire!

We just had our AC unit installed by custom aire and I couldn't be happier with the results. They showed up on time and got the job done in the time frame they quoted. The installer Allen was very helpful keeping me informed through the whole process. Would highly recommend this company to anyone. Service: Install AC

Before I employed Custom Aire (Bensalem), to replace my two heat pumps, I check with two neighbors who had the same work done. Their comments were very positive. I found that the cost estimates given to me were very detailed with all my pesky technical questions answered. Their prices were very competitive with two other vendors but I liked their presentation better as well as the presenter (no pressure).
My Interaction with the head office was very positive and they also were/are very responsive. The installation team was outstanding, solving long existing problems with my house and they were unruffled by some additional requests by me. The two Carrier systems have been working for about six weeks now and I am quite satisfied. Additional service calls about a thermostat reprogramming that I requested were jumped on by the office team.
I am quite happy with my choice of company and and am looking forward to a long, positive relationship. The posted reviews that I saw on-line gave me pause but I had no such negative experiences. Leonard Smiley, PhD

I'm not surprised that this company already has so many stellar reviews. Eric just stopped by for our annual Heating Maintenance/Check, and was extremely informative on how things are looking. Next up - AC System Maintenance ahead of the Summer Season. *After less than ideal AC performance last year, they helped to locate a small leak in a warranty covered part - and we were back in business with a nice cool house for our newborn baby in no time. Prompt, helpful, efficient - and above all (if you're actually reading these reviews as you look to hire them): friendly. **AND replied to my review in 20 minutes flat : ) Updated some words above to speak to those humans mindfully reading your reviews as they look to hire you. I also love reading reviews from my customers - especially when they shout out good work by an employee

Mike Myers did a fantastic job troubling shoot and determining the root cause for our issue. Also followed up with office and provided update regarding my maintenance. I would highly recommend Custom Aire as we have had our HVAC system for 10 years and always great service. Service: Heating system maintenance

Do not hire these crook. They left big holes in every wall where they installed a vent. They said it wasn't their responsibility to close them. They also said we'd be able to open and close vents but they are positioned next to the ceiling at a height we would need a ladder to reach. SLOPPY UNPROFESSIONAL WORK that cost $50K.

Scott should be ashamed of himself for ruining his dad's business. Not professional, and not a man of his word. His installers screwed up the installation of my AC unit. They tried to fix it with electrical tape. The main drain pan was not installed correctly and the secondary was the only one working. Im lucky I didn't have a major leak in my ceiling! I had to have another company fix my problem. stay away! It might have been good when his dad started it, but they are terrible now.

I highly recommend Custom-Aire, Inc. for all your HVAC needs. HVAC Technicians Tony and Tyler from Custom Aire, Inc. were punctual, well-mannered and provided the highest quality of work. It was neat and professional. They installed a Carrier 96.5% efficiency 100,000 BTU furnace and a Bradford White 75 gal. power vent natural gas hot water heater (HWH) for a very reasonable price in my home.
They laid down canvas drop cloths from my front door to the work area and cleaned up thoroughly. They answered all my questions and explained the final paperwork in detail to me, checking off items as they went, before I signed. Having a mechanical engineer degree makes me very critical of who I choose to do work on my house. I always obtain at least 5 quotes and do not always choose the lowest price.
I also want to mention that Mike Wieczorek can help you with financing options. The 24 year old in June Bradford White 75 gal. HWH above was not an easy removal. Yes, you have read it correctly, 24 years old. I was very lucky and when my furnace failed, I figured it was wise to replace the HWH. Tyler opened up the drain valve and said, "that has never happened to me before".
No water was flowing from the open valve (24 years of accrued sediment). Tony and Tyler did not get frustrated, but brainstormed and with a lot of muscle were able to tilt the HWH and remove the water safely from the top " copper pipe. Their vacuum pump was able to remove some water prior to tilting the HWH. Tony made a call to his sheet metal guy for the furnace duct transitions which arrived quickly and fit perfectly.
He also installed an in-line light fixture into the 1/2" steel conduit which I thought was a great idea. I will use it when I change my air filter or humidifier filter or set the humidifier %. The next day, Tom and Mike from Custom-Aire, Inc. installed a Bradford White 40 gal. conventional vent natural gas HWH at my rental property with the same level of service provided above.

We had an amazing experience from start to finish with Custom Aire. We brought out 5 different companies to quote and we went with Custom Aire. I am thoroughly happy with the service we received. The salesman John was open honest and thorough, he replied during evening hours to emails and calls. We did receive 3 tiers of options for varying efficiency rates of different options we could go with.
Working with scheduling and payment with Rosemary was lovely, polite and courteous. The two guys that were here to install our new heating, cooling and thermostats had to think on their feet to problem solve some duct issue and they were efficient, thorough and polite. They were respectful to clean up and walk us through everything they did and how to work everything.
They even installed a light so we can see our unit better (it's in a dark corner). We had a great experience start to finish with Custom Aire and would highly recommend them.

I was a customer for 16 years. I had good service over all of those years. This time was different. I called because the heat went out in a condo that I rent out to a tenant. Customaire's first response over the phone was that my unit is old and they would send someone out to give me a free estimate for replacement. They did that. When I asked them what was wrong with the unit they said they don't know.
But here is our estimate for replacing. I said I'd like to know what is wrong to know if repair or replacement is justified. They said they could send a technician out to assess the problem and give me an estimate for repair (after some back and forth) at a cost for a visit of $90. And they would bring out some heaters to help keep my tenant keep warm.
Later that day they showed up and the technician told me he could not proceed with evaluating the problem because the circuit breaker for the unit had tripped and could not be reset. The circuit breaker needs to replaced by an electrician. They told me I would need to have an electrician replace the breaker before they could go on. They also told me they had left the heaters there which they had not.
After another call, they finally got the temporary heaters out there. Next I got an electrician to come over, which now is after hours, only to have the electrician tell me that the breaker is just fine. The Customaire technician simply did not reset the breaker! Then my electrician went on to diagnose the problem to some extent. He also got the unit running on backup heat.
I then called Customaire back and told them I got the circuit breaker replaced, even though it did not need to be and that they could come out to finish their assessment and do a repair or give me an estimate. They would not come out because we were not without heat and they won't do that after hours. I explained that this is a continuation of during hours work that you incorrectly terminated.
No chance. See you another day. Okay, so finally I go to another contractor and ask them to give me my repair and replace options which they did free of charge. After their free visit and estimate of almost $2000 less than Customaire, I used them and decided not to go with my 16 year Hvac team, Customaire and install a new unit with the new guy who up until that time had not charged me anything. And.
The new guy would put it in 2 days later, whereas Customaire with their $2000 higher cost had now pushed me, their 16 year customer, out 4 days until after the weekend. You would think that's the end. But there is still more. The president of Customaire, Robert Schneider called me up and said he heard about my plight and thought that this is not the way they want to treat customers after hearing the while story.
He went on to offer 1 year free maintenance ( on a brand new Hvac system that I was having installed) and would pay for the electrician visit since their technician had told me that the circuit breaker was bad. He made this offer to me at his own initiative. I said thanks and after a few days, when I got the electrician invoice I sent it over to Mr. Schneider as he requested.
After many more days and upon my inquiring on the status of the reimbursement, Mr. Schneider said that he didn't mind making good on his offer, but he thought the electrician charged too much and I should question the electrician about the details of the invoice. I did so and provided all the details of the hourly rates and after hours charge, etc. that went into the bill to Mr. Schneider.
Now silence. I made several phone calls at various hours of the day only to learn that Mr. Schneider is not available, his voice mail is full and there have been no return phone calls. The same for several emails that have gone unanswered. So here I am now. Waiting to find out if Customaire wants to make good on their offer. This is what 16 years of being a customer at Customaire looks like. Still waiting.

I would never use this company ever they try and tell you they are the best around they are not there prices are so high on everything there work is nothing to brag about tried to sell me a hvac unit only to find out the same exact work was 3000.00 cheaper with another company and there maintenance policy if you get just overpriced and do not get a policy for the summer and winter will not refund any money even though it does not state it anywhere if you cancel your maintenance policy

Terrible service! They do not back up their work and on more than one occasion have canceled appointments or did not show up at the time they said they would. We had a brand new HVAC system installed by this company and it has been nothing but problems. Air Conditioner: They didn't bother to look up the NJ electrical code prior to installation and installed a fused box that wasn't to code.
They then said the correct type of fuse wasn't available. When they finally came out to install the new fuse (a month later) it was "defective" and we were without a working air conditioner during the hottest part of the summer. Heater Install: Our system was installed in July. When we started the heat a few months later (November), we found out the condensation pipe was erroneously installed over the electrical panel, causing water to leak all over the electrical components.
Rather than owning to their mistake, and replacing the parts that were water damaged, they said "everything looked ok" despite the fact 1.) we got a second opinion from another HVAC company that said otherwise 2.) The damage was very obviously visible and 3.) The system itself had a record of all of the multiple failure codes. When they came out initially to look at this issue, they came late in the day and did absolutely nothing to fix the system.
They set up a second appointment, which my husband took off from work for, only to cancel the day of. We have had to take off too many days from work (at least 5) between the heater and air conditioner for a brand new system that has not worked smoothly since installion in July.

Custom Aire actually deserves no stars. I strongly recommend you try someone else as they overcharged me for a diagnostic visit and recommended a very expensive and unnecessary repair. The came to look at my AC unit which had stopped working and recommended a $2,400 repair and said the parts would take several days to order. When I called a 2nd company for a quote, they diagnosed only a $175 repair and had my AC unit working the same day. Additionally, they charged my credit card for $400 for a "repair" despite the fact that I only agreed to a $95 diagnostic fee and despite the factr that they never made any actual repairs to my AC.

Since the original igniter was not the correct one for my unit, the technician should have ordered the correct one and come back to take out the Gerry rigged one and replace it with the correct one. This did not happen so the one year old igniter failed and had to be replaced. The intial repair was around $300 and the one this season was again $300.
One of these should have been waived. The technicians know their work but the company does not value doing things right the first time and not having the customer pay twice. Now I am praying the fan motor does not go when the new motor is in and could have been installed. The quality of the work is good but follow through and replacing a wrong part and scheduling timely repair of new parts has fallen through the cracks. James Crosley with the hot water heater and brandon were excellent but the having a part time technician and a runner would make average service much better.

I set up an appointment with James (Service Manager) on Thursday. The appointment was for Friday between noon and 4:00 p.m. When the service technician did not show up by 4:10 p.m., I contacted the office, and the fill-in receptionist or answering service could only take a message. I left a message for James. Under the circumstances, I expected a return call on Friday afternoon/evening which I did not receive.
Customer service and punctuality do not appear to be top priorities for Custom Aire. It seems that Custom Aire does not need the business or does not wish to service my location, or perhaps, both. Whatever the actual reason, I would not recommend Custom Aire based on their lack of responsiveness, customer service, and punctuality.

I've now used CustomAire at my home, recommended them to a neighbor and for installing two new systems at new properties I developed. They are excellent. My home was difficult as it was built in 1814 and rebuilt in 1960, but with inadequate ducting and a single unit in the basement. CustomAire replaced my heater and AC with a state of the art Carrier Infinty unit with 4 zones and we can not be happier with the system or their service. They are true professionals.

I hired Custom Aire for installation of Mitsubishi heating and cooling units several years ago. I was happy with the work at that time. Recently, one of the units stopped working, and I had someone come out to assess and repair the unit. It cost $100 to diagnose the problem and almost $400 for them to come back and fix it (they do not give you a discount if they return to do the repair after they diagnose the problem).
The same guy who diagnosed the problem came to do the repairs, and after about an hour and half, told me everything was working fine and had me sign the work order without showing me that the unit was actually fixed. After he left, I went to turn on the unit and it did not work. I called the service department, and they sent a different repairman to check the unit.
They did not charge me for this reassessment, which I expected as I had already paid for the unit to be fixed, and it had not been. The second repairman diagnosed a totally different problem. I talked to the service department about having that problem fixed, and Matt, the service department manager, let me know that he would charge me full price for the second repair.
When I questioned why I would be charged as I had already paid for repairs that did not actually fix the unit, he told me -- without any proof -- that the first repairman had fixed the unit, that it was fully functional when he left my house, but it had broken again in the 20 minutes between when the first service repairman left, and when I went to turn the unit on.
Of course, that would mean that the unit had broken while it wasn't even running. I asked if I could speak with someone else, and Matt patched me through to what he said was the owner's phone. I don't know if it was actually the owner's phone, because no one picked up, and the voicemail did not identify whose phone it was. Whoever it was, they haven't called back. I'm out $500, the unit still doesn't work, and if I want to give them a shot at actually fixing it, it's going to cost me a boatload more. I'm trying to figure out who to report them to, as it seems to me they fraudulently took my money for the first repair. I don't believe for a second that the unit broke in the 20 minutes between when he left and when I tried to turn it on, and they charged me anyway.

Company was recommended by another service in early 2013, knew my heat pump would need replacing, wanted it done by Summer. Was a big hassle due to condo rules, but ended up picking a mid-tier high efficiency Carrier unit. Salesman who sold me the unit was a bit clueless and seemed unwell, was told later that he had passed. Sad. Custom Aire installed the unit in the time frame expected, did a great job.
Unit has performed well, even in the harsh winters we've had the past two years. Have had maintenance contract on it with them for three years now, saves money over the long term. Business is run out of a small and hard to find location, parking is tight, but customers would rarely need to travel there except during purchase period. Company could train their receptionists better, seem to know very little about the business.

When Carl, the owner was directly involved in operations years ago, the company was very good. Since handing off the lead to his son, in my opinion the company has taken a serious nose dive. I called them out for a estimate to repair a unit they installed about 8 years ago. Not only was I NOT told AFTER the tech checked the system out that a $100 service call was going to be charged, but the "tech" totally mis-diagnosed the problem saying I needed parts that didn't need replacement and wanted to charge me $1700 for a for replacing them! Their reliability with meeting the scheduled time is also horrible. I got another company to do the job ALOT cheaper.

We bought our house in 2009. We removed the oil tank from our home and we decided to go with central air/heat. We had 5 different estimates. They were roughly all the same but I thought Scott was the best presentation and seemed trustworthy. well I wish I would've looked deeper into the company. Here we were are 6 years later and I still have problems with our unit.
About three years in our drip pan in the attic was propped up on a bucket and I guess something in the attic hit it so our drip pan leaked all over our attic soaking our bedroom ceiling and door frame. We never realized it was propped up on a bucket until we had the leak. (We don't go in the attic much). After that fiasco, the following year our winter electric bills shot up to over $600 a month and there is only two of us in the house!
My brother in law is in heating and air so he checked it out and our refrigerant was leaking causing our heat pump to run on "auxiliary heat" which is an energy sucker! He refilled the refrigerant and it was fine from there. Now two years later, something is again wrong with the unit as it only runs on "auxiliary heat" and we didn't realize until we got an electric bill this month of $1400!
Again there are ONLY two of us in the house. Obviously, now I know we had a terrible install and the unit is not working properly again as it was never installed right from the beginning. We also found out that they ran ducts to our upstairs but never connected them so we technically do not have heat or air upstairs in our house. I am sorry now I am just realizing that it was the terrible install job that has caused us these problems and extra money! $1400 for ONE month of electric! Buyers beware!

I hired Custom Aire to install a new air conditioner unit and attic air handler for my home. I choose them because they had been around for quite a while and carried Carrier brand ac units. After 4 years (and 4 service contracts) they came out to my house for a regular maintenance. 2 weeks later all the refrigerant had leaked out. They covered the part that was defective, but charged me $800 for the refrigerant!
The technician who did the repair said they should have caught the leak but they didn't. The next year, I had a problem with the air handler in the attic. 3 different tech's came out and couldn't diagnose the problem. My son, who is a second year HVAC student diagnosed it in 5 minutes. I finally hired another company to come look at the problem and they discovered that the original install was a hatchet job!
The drain pan was broken so they shoved two rolls of electrical tape behind it so it wouldn't move. That fix caused the drain pan to pitch to the wrong side so that left the secondary or emergency pan to do all the work. Had that failed, my ceiling and attic would have been destroyed by water. I talked to the "head" of customer service and he said. "I will get to the bottom of this!" Well, after 4 months, I am still waiting. They go through HVAC technicians like fast food workers so I can't imagine they are very good to work for. I would suggest looking for another company.

We hired Custom Aire in 2010 to install whole-house air conditioning in our old Philly row house that did not have pre-existing ducts. They were the only contractors we consulted who suggested putting the unit and most of the ductwork on the roof, and then dropping the necessary ducts into the house via the closets. We really liked the design and the price seemed reasonable, so we hired them.
The installation job was very sub-par, however. There was water leaking almost immediately from the holes in the roof, and because they put no insulation around the ductwork on the roof, condensation caused further water leakage in the ceiling in the winter. The company came and made repairs free of charge during that first year while their work was under warranty.
Just recently, however, the air conditioning unit utterly failed--the compressor, the condenser fan, and the fan motor. Although Custom Aire's info. says everywhere that they are a Carrier dealer, our original sales contract said they'd install a "Carrier/York". Of course when it was a York, and not a Carrier unit, that they showed up with for installation, we didn't realize that they were giving us a lemon.
Although the parts that needed to be replaced are under warranty from York, the labor was not. Custom Aire said we'd need to pay $3,000 for the repair initially, and then when we balked, they came up with the magic number $2,400 for no apparent reason. We paid 3 other contractors to give us alternative estimates and one of them (called ECI) ultimately repaired the unit for about $1,000. Still, we are stuck with a crappy air conditioner that might fail again at any time and has only 2 more years of warranty left. Beware of Custom Aire--they do shoddy work and they charge waaaay too much.

I had a great experience with Custom Aire, both for installing our Air Conditioning and Heat, and for their routine maintenance. Prior to selecting Custom Aire I bid out the project to 4 different companies, and did not show any of them the bids. I wanted it truly to be a comparison based on what they recommended for my historic row house (over 100 years old) with 4 floors.
With each team I wrote down a series of questions and asked them the same thing, I then asked them for their recommendations. Although all the bids were seemingly similar, I found that Custom Aire was the most thorough. After doing the initial walk through, they asked if they could bring 2 of their engineers out to see the space. They then provided me with sketches, a formal bid, and cut sheets of manufacturers and pricing differences.
If anything they gave me at first too many options, and I needed to narrow them down! In contrast, other places were quick to give me a quote, for practically the same price, but without the additional info! Their install job was clean, smart, and the team was very professional. Highly recommend Custom Aire!

I was stuck in a situation where I am physically not able to be in my rental property to address a kitchen leak that I believe to be a clogged drain pipe from my AC condenser. My tenant called and I remember that the original unit was serviced by Custom Aire. So one of the technician came out, saw that my unit was very old and pretty much instantly recommended a complete replacement of the AC system.
So i got the quotes, about $6500 for condenser and furnance and they claimed that the water heater had to be replaced as well for $950. Being naturally skeptical, I began conducting contractor searches. Initially, I was forwarding CA's quote to other contractor, everyone said it was high but their prices were within $500. Then I realize these other contractors are probably "feeding off the frenzy" and giving comparable but slightly lower quote. Finally, I got a quote from the Homedepot Recommended contractor, J Gillies, and their estimate was $4175 with homedepot 0% financing for 12 months. Realized that I am getting a pretty good deal, I throw in a water heater and humidier for a grand total of $5075.
Saving over $1500, with extra appliances. Not saying CA was trying to take advantage of that fact I am out of state but it is hard not to considering I saved over $2000 going with a different contractor with the same basic grade of equipment. The quote from CA was a Payne unit and the unit I got from John Gillies was trane. Both 13 seer AC and 80 btu for furnace.
